New Standard and Enterprise subscriptions stopped on 9 October. Existing contracts remain supported. Additional licences and annual renewals end 31 January 2027; monthly renewals end 31 December 2027.

Google introduces a universal Gemini agent for work

Google announced an enterprise agent that uses business tools, writes and runs code, retains context and coordinates other agents. Legal and financial specialisations are previews.

Buyer takeaway

Evaluate action permissions, audit logs and data access before delegating work. Persistent context can save effort but increases governance responsibilities.

Google opens SynthID Detector globally

Google expanded its tool for checking supported images, audio and video for SynthID watermarks from Google and participating partners.

Buyer takeaway

Useful before sharing uncertain media. A missing watermark does not prove that content is human-made; this is not a universal deepfake detector. Consider upload privacy.

Better AI-assisted output does not guarantee learning

A three-month study of patent attorneys found improved AI-assisted work quality without average gains in independent skill for junior lawyers.

Buyer takeaway

Practise without assistance and verify AI answers. This study concerns patent attorneys and should not be generalised to every profession.

Panasonic and Google develop AI-assisted home security

Panasonic plans to combine video intercoms and monitoring cameras with Google AI and cloud services for anomaly detection and personalised alerts.

EmbeddingGemma 2 enables local multimodal search

Google released a 740-million-parameter model that maps text, code, images, audio and video into a shared embedding space for search and retrieval.

Buyer takeaway

A building block for local media search, rather than a ready consumer app. Speed and memory depend on hardware; check whether the surrounding app sends data online.

AI agents need controls beyond chat permissions

Google Research examined privacy and security challenges when AI agents access personal data and act through tools.

How Gboard trains AI with verifiable privacy

Google announced a federated-learning system using protected server environments and externally verifiable privacy policies. English and Japanese next-word prediction models have adopted it.

Buyer takeaway

Encrypted training examples can leave the phone for protected processing. Check language coverage and data controls; this is not a claim that all training stays on-device. Hardware protections remain part of the trust model.

LG brings couch multiplayer pool to webOS TVs

LG announced Miniclip’s 8 Ball Pool for webOS 6.0 and newer, with Magic Remote controls and same-screen two-player Couch Play Mode.

PS5 gains an AI upscaling option

Sony announced Quick Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR), with initial patches for Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei. Sony says it improves image detail and stability on PS5.

Buyer takeaway

Apple Pay arrives in India with limited card support

Apple announced support on compatible iPhones, iPads and Apple Watches for Axis Bank-issued Visa and Mastercard credit cards. Mac support is coming later.

New Mac desktops broaden local AI options

Apple India confirmed availability of Mac mini with M6 or M5 Pro and Mac Studio with M5 Max or M5 Ultra. The 512 GB-memory Mac Studio configuration is scheduled for late October.

AI-labelled laundry: inspect the actual features

LG lists AI DD, steam and ThinQ Wi-Fi on the FHP1209Z5M washer. These are manufacturer-listed capabilities, not independent evidence of better cleaning.

Buyer takeaway

Ask which programmes use a feature, what setup is needed and whether it solves a real laundry problem. Do not treat an AI label as a performance score.

Understand on-device AI, cloud AI and protected processing

What to check behind the headline

For AI features, ask which tasks run on the device, which send data to the cloud, which languages work, and whether a subscription is required. For connected appliances, check the exact controller and feature compatibility. For efficiency claims, look for comparable test conditions and the energy label on the supplied model. Treat a launch announcement as a reason to investigate, not a reason to buy.
